The rumor mill has stopped for the holidays
I got this rumor few days ago and I have been unsuccessfully trying to get some confirmations. What bothers me is the time frame of the Nikon D90 and D300s replacements – those lines are on a 2 years refresh schedule and Nikon has been strictly following it. Removing the AF motor from the D90 is also questionable. Coincidentally, the Nikon D90 “body only” hit a new low price of $789.95 @ B&H...
A week ago NR reported about NASA buying new Nikon D3s cameras (aka “The Lord of Darkness”) and some lenses. Today Nikon made it official:

I got a word that Nikon will release eight (8) new lenses in 2010 (I will rate this rumor @ 80% probability). If true, this will be the most lenses Nikon has ever released in an year (at least in recent history):

Multiple readers have asked me about the manual video control of the Nikon D3s. The camera has a full manual video mode (ISO, shutter, aperture)… and this is not in the manual – on page 66 of the manual it says “The camera adjust shutter speed and ISO sensitivity automatically”, but if you put the camera in manual mode and hit the OK button you can manual adjust at will. Ok. So I got it. And the sound effect is now significantly better than what the D300s mono microphone can deliver!
Found this baby in Japan. Obviously, there are other alternatives that runs in the hundreds of dollars but I guess this would suffice my need.
New Addition to the Family - Hoya CP Filter 72mm
The D300s has been doing a fine job keeping those washed out skies captured on a bright sunny day, but it will definitely appreciate my use of a new CP filter on it!
But as all of us would know, it does bring a stop or two of light away from the sensor. Let’s see how contrasty it can get out of each shot. The recent motivation to get it was my unpleasant attempt to shoot through a night...
Picture Quality of D90 and D300s
Though both cameras run on a 12.3 MP DX sensor, there’s an observed additional 2MB per image churned out from the D300s on each JPEG compared to the D90. Now, that’s quite a lot of color depth at the D300’s disposal.
