Happy and Fruitful 2011!

Yeah, right. Another new year dawns, yet again. And yes, I have decided to avoid the 300,000 crowd awaiting their countdown at the Marina Bay Singapore tonight. It will seriously be a nightmare to leave the premise on public transport after the count down as most roads around it has been closed.

Now, as for Nikon Studio, I want to thank every visitors and fellow enthusiasts for gracing this site regularly, in hope to see more of the world we all live in. It’s vast and extremely fascinating.

My next year draft shoot locations have been kinda fixed for 2011, with only more countries coming my way as the new year unfolds. But for now, I am pinning my motivation on United States, Bahamas, New Zealand and Hong Kong in the coming few months. Do swing by Nikon Studio 2.0 to check it out for more details!

Happy shooting! Happy New Year! It will be another fun year as I attempt to integrate my business advisory work trips with photography in a bigger way.

Cheers!

Joe Mcnally is (or will be) in Town!

Yes, that’s right! He’s fast becoming like a star to not just Nikon photographers but to every photographers in general!

His subject on lightings has so far been, second to none. Am I meeting him in person? Of course I am! At least, that saves me a trip to the States!

Most other NPS members I guess will be seeing him too! We’ve been invited!!

I am Nikon. I am Model Mayhem.

Being encouraged to do so from my last model shoot, I have just decided to join Model Mayhem yesterday as a MM photographer. Besides, my last round of female model shoot was supplied by Model Mayhem! So, now that we have the formal introduction, you can reach Nikon Studio’s Photographer at nikon.studio@yahoo.com for any enquiries. I won’t bite…I promise.

And, if you are already a male or female model located in Singapore or Hong Kong of Model Mayhem, you can look me up via my photographer ID #1988640.

Remember, continue posing that I can continue shooting!

More MM information can be found [here].

Mental Dispositions on our Captures

It’s pretty much how our brain perceive an issue that determine our response to it. It always have been. And that’s very applicable to how I recently approach my next shutter click.

The original disposition has always been to shoot every moving and visual scenes, much like how you would do it on a video camera. But after clocking pass the 60K shutter count in the last two years, I think I have now acquired the domain knowledge of how Nikon camera ticks. It’s a good time to begin training the much neglected skill set of composing better shots instead.

In fact, this is probably what I will be doing from now on, and that’s what I encourage you to do likewise, that we begin alienating ourselves from the so-boring snapshots!

Marina Bay Countdown 2010/2011

Well, if you are ready for this too, then why not join me to check this out come 31st December 2010?

Best equipment for shooting fireworks will definitely include a ultra wide lens (and a telephoto for firework close up), a solid tripod, small aperture, slow shutter speed and an activated two-second self-timer.

Have fun!

Interesting Notes About Nikon D700

For one, this beast now rips 14-bit RAW shots at a blistering 8fps when pushing turns shuffling, against the 2.5 fps on the Nikon D300s. Secondly, file images are so clean and sharp at ISO 6400 that I literally gained a usable 4-stops (against the DX flagship D300s) against the dark.

Wow! The viewfinder is so much bigger to facilitate manual focusing when needed. Its really a joy to shoot through it! Fourthly, you gain virtual horizon even without shooting in the live view mode. That’s really useful in my opinion. Tripod shots can now be taken much more accurately with the built-in viewfinder shutter door to eliminate stray light from messing with the camera metering.

All the camera buttons like AE-L/AF-L, AF-ON, Fn etc. can now be programmed to perform all available complex camera function, otherwise accessible only within the complex menu. I can still control my SB-900 strobe wireless via the pop up flash on camera - an excellent feature I use quite often for off-camera lighting.
